What’s your full name and where are you from?
My name is Emily Ennis and I was born in Liverpool.
Tell us how you first found out about The Women’s Organisation and became part of our team?
I found out about The Women’s Organisation when I was searching for disability-friendly jobs. I found the job advertised on the government job page and absolutely fell in love. I couldn’t believe that I had found a role that suited my personality and needs so well.
What kind of things have you done prior to working here?
I have had a couple of jobs prior to starting at The WO. From the age of 13, I worked as a Saturday girl in a hairdresser. I then ended up in a prom dress shop selling ball gowns. After that I moved on to JD sports and during Covid, I worked for Track and Trace. So this is my first big girl job.
What has surprised you about working at The Women’s Organisation?
How everyone gets along and genuinely are all friends with one another, despite the fact that the company is quite large. Typically, people just stick to the people within their teams or just consider each other work colleagues but not here. All the staff mix and show so much interest in one another, not just to be polite but because they truly care and consider one other as good friends. It’s lovely to walk into any room or conversation and feel like you are included.
What’s the best thing about working at The Women’s Organisation so far?
The office dogs, I am a big dog lover they just make my day. So walking through the door each day to be greeted by different fury friends is just the best. It is so nice to see how much they brighten everyone’s day.
What does your day to day look like?
My typical day in work involves being on reception, assisting clients with bookings and doing any admin jobs that help with keeping reception running smoothly. I really enjoy working on reception, it’s lovely to chat to everyone who comes through the door.
What might (someone) be surprised to know about you?
Something people might be surprised to know about me is that I have a degree in psychology, and I studied it for 6 years. I have such a passion for understanding how people work and why we do the things we do. It’s so fascinating to understand the motivations behind our daily behaviours.
What’s your top 3 favourite films?
Even though I love films I am more of a series girl. I love “This is Us”. That is my all time favourite. “Friends” is a classic, and for my feel-good series I would say “Superstore”.
What do you do when you aren’t working?
Usually, I spend time with my nieces and nephew. I love to take them out as much as I can, enjoying activities such as the zoo or pottery painting. They keep me on my toes and make my weekends a lot more exciting. When I am not with them, I like to craft as I have a small business making personalised products. I love creating and crafting, I have done since I was a little girl, so I make sure I put time aside to have fun and be creative.
If you could change anything in the world, what would you change?
How negative people can be. I realise that there are many horrible and heart-breaking things happening in the world and how profoundly it may affect people, but when I say negative, I mean those who are unnecessarily unpleasant or cruel. I feel that a compliment or a kind word can truly make someone’s day, so I would change the world by making everyone a little bit kinder.
What’s your favourite quote?
Grow through what you go through.
What’s your full name and where are you from?
My name is Steff Scott and I am from Liverpool
Tell me how you first found out about The Women’s Organisation and become part of our team?
I have followed The WO for a few years, and always been interested in what they do, I saw a post on Facebook for the role of Facilities Administrator and was excited that a role was available in The Wo that was suitable for me and my background. I applied and was very lucky to get the position!
What kind of things have you done prior to this role?
Prior to this I have worked in hospitality since I was 16, been in management for the last 13 years, everywhere from hotels like Hilton, to branded and independent cafes/bars across the city!
What has surprised you about working at The Women’s Organisation?
The focus on wellbeing, and development in and out of the workplace – everything from access to all training courses, wellbeing reminder emails, and event days in the building!
What’s the best thing about working at The Women’s Organisation so far?
By far the team, and how well everyone works with and supports each other, in the facilities team, and the wider community of the office and whole building.
What does your day to day look like?
So far I am learning that every day is different! However, most days consist of opening and closing the building, general reception, and admin duties, looking after conference bookings and any events running, and all our in-house tenants needs for post etc! I then look after building maintenance and safety alongside this, making sure everything is working to keep us all safe and legal, and equipment is working properly and efficiently in the building.
What might (someone) be surprised to know about you?
That I am a whisky drinker surprises people! I love a good whisky, served with no mixer or ice – and tend to go for Japanese and heavily peated whiskies, favourites are “Nikka by the Barrell” or “Big Pete” (Which my friends who have tried say tastes like TCP!)
What’s your top 3 favourite films?
Ready Player One, Avengers (End Game), and Midnight in Paris
What do you do when you aren’t working?
Chill at home in front of the fire normally! I also love walking Maisie (The king Charles Spaniel in pics!) at Crosby Beach with a nice coffee, and eating out in Liverpool City Centre (Maray or Sanskruti top faves!)
If you could change anything in the world, what would you change?
An improvement on people’s work-life balance overall, and a higher focus on this for people’s wellbeing. Some countries are already making positive changes, Denmark, New Zealand. I think people should have more time to spend with friends and family, and to develop themselves outside work.
What’s your favourite quote?
When one door closes… you can just open it again, that’s how doors work!
