This month, we’re inviting you to ‘Meet Our Virtual Tenants…’ Glass Ceilings Change Management.
Bringing together nearly 20 years’ expertise in operations, policy, people and organisational development, Glass Ceilings Change Management take a holistic approach to systems thinking,
We had a virtual catch-up with CEO Laura Evans to find out more about the business and why they are preparing to be very busy following the election.
Hi Laura! Tell us about your business…
Glass Ceilings Change Management is people services, done differently. Embedding inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, helping employers remove barriers to inclusion, treat their people as people and ensure work life balance for all. By doing so, we help employers modernise and embrace the future of work and attract talent, retain more people, reduce sickness absence and increase productivity and profits. We do this through HR consultancy (long term, ad hoc, ER and independent investigations), HR policies (off the shelf and bespoke), training and OD&D.
Describe your typical daily routine…
We have genuinely totally flexible working arrangements so we practice what we preach and I work flexibly throughout the week. My workload is very varied and no two days are ever the same. I could be talking to a new corporate client about helping them with OD&D or culture change, or helping an SME or charity client implement one of our many people-focused policies like our ‘Addictions at Work’ policy. I could be doing a public speaking engagement on a topic like the importance of wellbeing in the workplace or guest speaking on a business podcast. As well as briefing my wider team and working with my team of associates who work on client projects, I could be writing a response to a government and industry body consultation on employment law and the future of work.
Why did you choose 54 St. James Street?
My Accountant recommended it and it’s an organisation that has similar values and ethos to Glass Ceilings. It is a great space, with meeting rooms and conference facilities in the heart of Liverpool.
What would be your top tips for anyone looking to start a business?
You start with your goal, but I recommend laying the foundations and getting the governance, systems and processes in place to help you to achieve it.
From the very beginning, think about people. What kind of culture do you want to create? What kind of people will help you to achieve that? What kind of employer do you want to be? How will you get the best out of your people?
What’s on your reading or watch list at the moment?
I read really widely, fiction and non-fiction from newspapers to industry publications, and right now I’m reading a copious amount about proposed legislation changes coming down the pipeline and employment law updates. In my downtime, you’ll mainly find me listening to a good podcast or my eclectic music collection of over 2,500 albums! I also watch lots of sports, and am looking forward to the cricket including Jimmy Anderson’s last test for England this summer as well as the Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
Anything else you would like to tell us about:
Following the General Election, I’m preparing for a very busy period. The new government has suggested that they will be making lots of changes and people are worried that they might have to adapt to new ways of doing things. A lot of organisations are going to need support as the Labour government implements their ‘Plan to Make Work Pay Delivering a New Deal for Working People’.
I expect my inbox will be filling up as clients look to me to help them with their people services and their policies in the wake of these changes.
