There’s a friendly new face welcoming you to 54 St James Street! Meet our new Customer Service Administrator, Ivy Muria. Read on to find out more about her and how she’s adjusting to life at The Women’s Organisation and 54 St James Street.
What’s your full name and where are you from?
My name is Ivy Muria, I’m originally from Kenya but I have lived in Wales for most of my life. I’m relatively new to Liverpool and I’m currently working on perfecting my scouse accent.
Tell us how you first found out about The Women’s Organisation and become part of the team?
When I first moved to Liverpool last year a friend and fellow Liverpudlian told me about The Women’s Organisation and what they do. She suggested that it would be a perfect fit, as she knew how passionate I am about women’s empowerment. A few months later, The Women’s Organisation had a vacancy to join the team and I jumped at the chance!
What kind of things have you done prior to coming to The Women’s Organisation?
I studied Tourism Management in Cardiff. Since then, I have worked in hospitality and in finance. I have also volunteered for a support provider for women in Wales called BAWSO.
What has surprised you about working at The Women’s Organisation?
How friendly and respectful everyone is to one another regardless of their role in the organisation. There is no ‘hierarchy’ at The Women’s Organisation.
What’s the best thing about working at The Women’s Organisation?
The fact that our building, 54 St James Street, is dog friendly – I melt every time I see one!
Could you describe one of your typical workdays?
Every day is different and there is always something new to do! But I would say answering emails and phone calls, sorting out the post and preparing our venue space.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
That at one point in my life I was a chocolatier. I used to sell luxury chocolates in Chester – it was as wonderful as it sounds! I had samples every day and got see how it is made from bean to bar. So if you ever need any extensive knowledge on chocolate, I am your girl.
What do you do when you aren’t working?
I’m usually trying out a new recipe or dish, I’m extremely passionate about food!
